- The deadline for Aadhaar PAN linking extended to 30th June 2021
- If not linked till 30th June, PAN will become inoperative
- Link you PAN with Aadhaar to avoid penalty of ₹1,000/-
Government has given a major relief to taxpayers by extending the due date for Aadhaar PAN linking from 31st March, 2021 to 30th June 2021. In Finance Bill, 2021 a new section 234H was inserted to levy fee of ₹1,000 in case assessee fails to link his/her PAN with Aadhaar.
The linking of Aadhaar with PAN is a mandate for the processing of ITR. PAN is a necessary KYC requirement for bank accounts. Linking the Aadhaar with PAN will automatically link an individual’s Aadhaar with bank accounts. All such PAN Cards which are not linked to Aadhaar would be useless and declared inoperative after the deadline ends. Penalty for not linking Aadhaar Card with PAN Card is Rs. 1000. If your PAN Card not linked with Aadhaar then TDS will be deducted at the rate of 20%.
Why Government has made this mandatory?
Linking the PAN and Aadhaar Card, the government will be able to link the identity of an entity through his/her Aadhaar Card. As a result of which government will get the details of all financial transactions made through the linked PAN Card. This linking will help the government to set up a meticulous and transparent system. Linking PAN with Aadhaar will reduce the occurrence of individuals or entities applying for multiple PAN cards to defraud the government. It also removes the possibility of an individual having more than one PAN Card.
